Established in 1972, the Syracuse University Gerontology Center is dedicated to advancing aging scholarship through research, teaching, and service. Our 32 faculty affiliates, who come from fourteen academic departments across campus, have expertise in a wide range of substantive topics. The Gerontology Center provides information about aging-related courses, research projects, lectures, funding opportunities, and online resources at SU. It also administers an undergraduate- and graduate-level certificate of achievement in gerontology and a Lifelong Learning Institute that offers non-credit classes specifically designed for adults age 50 and older.
We are home to the Center for Aging & Policy Studies (CAPS), which is supported by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) Demography and Economics of Aging Centers program. CAPS supports research in two thematic areas: (1) age-related changes in everyday context, and (2) demographic change, late-life well-being, and public policy. It also hosts a biennial gerontology education summer workshop for undergraduate and graduate-level instructors of current or proposed aging-related courses.
I encourage you to explore the details of these ongoing initiatives through our website links. If you are interested in regularly receiving information about the Gerontology Center, please join our listserv by sending a message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu that says "subscribe gerocenter [your name]."
